“Natural talent, a very sensitive author and an equally skilled craftsman who can inspire a piece of material entirely new poetic life.”
Zdenek Vacek graduated as goldsmith and jeweler, and then spent several years repairing antique jewelry and goldsmith’s experience in various studios. Perfect knowledge of the craft enables him to combine traditional processing with innovative technologies and practices. Design features a high proportion of manual work and emphasis is placed on the detail of each component. Vacek debuted with collection Nympha in 2005, which earned him the appreciation Talent of the Year on the show Designblok and ranked him among the leading personalities of Bohemian jewelry design. There he presented his own unique style which is typical for linking organic shapes with technicism details and sci-fi aesthetics. Precious metals are combined with materials such as satin, clusters of pearls and synthetic polymers. In a similar vein he continued with collection Orchis, which turned tropical flowers in jewelry and Bye Bye Birdie which he designed with his colleague Daniel Posta. The latest collection Virus, which has also won one of the Editors Awards on Designblok 2011, presents chemical and biological processes in which different objects are attacked by foreign substances. A part of the collection contains chains made of red gold and surgical steel in combination with rough diamonds, Tahiti pearls and pyrites. There are also necklaces of linen ropes, on which as a parasitic virus are glittering crystals. Several versions of Zdenek´s jewels are in the depository of Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague and they were also selected as the official gifts of the Czech pavilion at EXPO 2010 in Shanghai. Zdenek Vacek exhibited at numerous international exhibitions and fairs, such as Seoul Design Olympiad, DMY Berlin, Tendence in Franfurt or iSaloni in Milan. During the last years, his team of collaborators has grown among jewelers and designers, and he regularly collaborates with film directors, fashion designers and other artists. In addition to his collections, he also produce custom design, gifts and awards. |
